KC Barbecue Tour Stop #3: Danny Edwards

There are so many great barbecue restaurants around Kansas City that I haven’t been to, despite the fact I’ve lived here all my life.  So when I started this blog, I thought it would be fun to try each and share pictures and stories here on Midwestern Belle.  Sadly, since February, I’ve been to a grand total of…

Three barbecue restaurants!!!

And this rate I’ll be working on this little project until I’m old and gray.

So, without further ado, I’d like to present the third restaurant: Danny Edwards Blvd Barbecue.

The restaurant is located in an industrial looking building close to downtown Kansas City.  It looks small from the outside but once you step inside, it’s actually very open with lots of chairs and tables.

Like this!

Are you ready for a little history lesson?  Up until three years ago, as the story goes, Danny Edwards was located in a small, 18-seat restaurant in downtown Kansas City.  Lots of customers got their food to-go because there wasn’t enough seating for everyone. In 2007, city developers took over the block and forced Danny Edwards out.  Thankfully, he turned the move into something positive and opened this location with more tables, chairs and room for everyone.

The end!  Of the history lesson portion at least.

They’re open from 11-3 Monday-Saturday, so it’s a lunch place only.  We got there right at noon so it was busy!   I was glad to have a few minutes in line to decide on what to order, and finally decided on the Southern Style Sandwich (pulled pork with coleslaw), baked beans, and seasoned fries.

Um…yum!  Everything was so good and the pulled pork was some of the best I’ve ever had.  And, as you can see, the portions are VERY generous.

I also have to mention that their staff was so friendly and helpful.  After ordering at the counter and getting our drinks, we had to wait a few minutes for a table (it’s a casual, seat yourself kind of place) and a sweet waitress totally took us under her wing.  Maybe we looked lost and confused?  Either way, she helped us watch for an open table and even brought out extra napkins and silverware when our food came out.

Here’s Danny Edwards info in case you’d like to check them out:

My oh my! I love BBQ food. Just love it! It barely exists in the UK and this makes me sad. I’ve been watching Man v Food recently and he has been touring a ton of BBQ joints in the US which makes me just want to hop on a plane and eat my way round the states!! Very jealous of your locality to such lovely restaurants!

For the true BBQ lover try to get “behind the scenes” and get a photo of the Pit and Pit master in action. Do they do whole hog or just ribs and shoulders? Beef Brisket?
